The Bomb Technician Memorial

was dedicated April 16, 2007

Redstone Arsenal, Alabama

Much interest had been expressed over the years in establishing a memorial to honor bomb technicians who have been killed in the line of duty.

While memorials have been erected to honor law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EOD personnel, there has never been any official recognition for public safety bomb techs.

In November 2004, the Bomb Technicians’ Memorial Foundation was incorporated by the South Carolina Secretary of State and, in July 2005, was granted 501(c)(3) charity status by the Internal Revenue Service.  The Foundation board is comprised of the voting members of the National Bomb Squad Commanders’ Advisory Board, with Jeff Fuller (SLED) having been elected as its Chairman.

A basic design concept - including a wall for names along with a life-size bronze statute of a bomb technician - was approved by the board.  A renowned sculptor from Georgia, Gregory Johnson (Gregory Johnson), known widely for his attention to detail, was consulted and he submitted a unique proposal.

Now the monumental task of funding the memorial was underway. Jeff Fuller, Chairman for the Foundation hit the road with his power point presentation. Companies, departments, classes and individuals all contributed funds. There were auctions and tee-shirt sales. HDS Basic classes passed the "boot."

The vision to honor the public safety bomb tech has come to fruition. This Memorial is now a reality.  The Bomb Tech Memorial was Dedicated on April 16, 2007 on the ground of the Hazardous Devices School on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL
