Detective Socha and his partner Detective Joseph Lynch were called into work from home on their day off based upon the discovery of a suspicious package located in the British Pavilion of the 1940 Worlds' Fair in Flushing Meadows, Queens, New York. Within seconds of responding to this incident as bomb technicians, the package detonated killing Detectives Socha and Lynch and injuring four others.
